Paso Galope (Step Gallop) is a study of movement. This film is part of my research on the Ardia di San Constantino” (Sardinia), a rite in which one hundred horses ridden by their horsemen cross the village of Sedilo to go to the church of San Constantino and commemorate the triumph of the Catholic faith over paganism.
Filmed in a tilted down position, from the horse’s belly, we watch its legs, the changing of the ground while the horse moves to follow the organized circuit of the rite.
From the step to the trot, from the trot to the gallop, from the city pavement to the dusty road of the Sanctuary, the rite emerges in the movement and violence of the bodies, in the entanglement of the legs, in the speed changes, in the sound.
Based on the camera recordings carried by the horse in its movement, the soundtrack is composed by rifle shots, gallops, human voices, crowds, introducing the context of a celebration that though not seen is perceived.

Esta película forma parte de mi investigación sobre el Ardia deSan Constantino” (Cerdeña), rito en el que cien caballos montados por sus jinetes cruzan el pueblo de Sedilo para dirigirse a la iglesia de San Constantino y conmemorar el triunfo de la fe católica sobre el paganismo.

Del paso al trote, del trote al galope, del pavimento de la ciudad al camino polvoriento del Santuario, el rito emerge en el movimiento y la violencia de los cuerpos, en el enredo de las piernas, en los cambios de velocidad, en el sonido. Basada en las grabaciones de cámara que lleva el caballo en su movimiento, la banda sonora está compuesta por disparos de fusil, galope, voces humanas, multitudes, introduciendo el contexto de una celebración que, aunque no se ve, se percibe.
